Well unfortunately, taste buds, when children are little, are not really designed for a very sophisticated palette. They do change as people get older and so little ones often really prefer sweet things. So the other thing to remember about little ones is they are not adventurous eaters usually and here is the reason: in the old days, think many, many generations back, toddlers, who were very adventurous in their eating habits, often did not live to pass on their genes. They ate those berries, they really should not have eaten and they died. So children are not very adventurous eaters. Right? Makes sense, there is a good reason for that. So the number one reason thing you can do to get your child to try new healthy foods is to serve those foods and to serve them repeatedly. Your child may have to see it ten times before he is willing to try that green bean or that beet that is on his plate. But in fact if he sees it ten times, he is more likely to give it a try and it could well become something that he enjoys and asks for in the future. If he sees you enjoying it there is a much greater chance of that. So if you do not like beets, you cannot really expect your child to eat beets either.
